Computer Science Rice Emerging Scholars Program

The Computer Science Rice Emerging Scholars Program (RESP) is an invitation-only program for incoming freshmen who are first-generation students or students from under-resourced backgrounds matriculating at Rice University. The program is designed to help students who intend to major in computer science by preparing them to be successful at Rice, in the Department of Computer Science, and beyond.

In 2025, the summer program will run from June 23 - August 1st. The summer program is residential, and students are provided with housing and dining, as well as a stipend and, if needed, a laptop. The program continues during each student's time at Rice, with advising and mentoring.

During the program, the participants will have the opportunity to explore topics they will see in their first year as computer science majors. Courses include Calculus, Discrete Math, and a Coding Workshop.

There will also be guest speakers and workshops on useful skills that will help these students be successful while majoring in computer science at Rice. Each student will be paired with an alumni or faculty mentor.

This program is in partnership with Rice's RESP program

Invitations will be extended in February (for early decision admits) and the first week of May to qualified admitted students.
