Admission for Undergraduate Students
Rice takes a holistic, team-based approach to reviewing undergraduate applications with the goal of enrolling a diverse class of the most talented students from across the country and around the world. Incoming students are not admitted to Rice CS specifically, but rather to the university as a whole.
Exploring CS at Rice
Most students agree that exploring majors is relatively easy at Rice. You do not need to declare a CS major in order to take our introductory courses. The first course in our introductory sequence, COMP 140, can also be applied towards the Distribution Group III requirement.
Declaring your Major
If you discover that you have more fun solving problems in our courses than in your other courses, you can choose from several paths to a CS degree, including one tailored for students who make the "sophomore switch" in their third or fourth semester.
